On Sunday, February 9, in honor of Sardis’s 235th birthday, Sardis will celebrate, worship, and share a meal together.
10:00 a.m.: Sunday School for all ages
11:00 a.m.: One combined worship service in the Fellowship Hall
Worship will feature Gospel music that has been sung throughout the years led by Beth Williams and guest music leader Tamekia Morton (who works at Trinity Episcopal School).
During worship we will be collecting the Souper Bowl of Caring special offering. This will benefit the Nourish Up Hunger Hub. You can give to the offering online here.
12:00 p.m.: Potluck Lunch. Sardis will be providing BBQ from Scouting Troop 33. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share.
As we look back on the history of Christ’s church and Sardis’ history as well we will also look to the future to the ways in which Christ is calling us to continuing following him as his disciples today.
Learn More About the Souper Bowl of Caring Offering & The Nourish Up Hunger Hub
The Hunger Hub is Nourish Up’s new home. It is a 90,000 square foot building in the Thomasboro-Hoskins neighborhood, accessible and central to many of the people in our community experiencing food insecurity. This facility greatly expands our capacity to meet rising needs and enables our team of volunteers and staff to provide groceries, meals, and hope. Beyond the mission-work of feeding our neighbors in need, the Hunger Hub also allows increased opportunities for advocacy, awareness, education, entrepreneurship, and partnership.
The new site is a game changer- it includes Ten times more cold storage to significantly increase the number of fresh foods and perishable items distributed. An onsite food pantry for neighbors to shop at no cost. A climate-controlled and expanded volunteer packing center. A teaching kitchen to expand nutrition education programming and include live demonstrations for student participants. Offices and food storage for partner organizations thus increasing our community reach and impact. Conference and meeting space for events and outside agencies.
In this final “course” of our Capital Campaign, their last project is to reimagine, construct, and outfit their Meals on Wheels onsite kitchen. This new 13,635 square-foot kitchen allows Nourish Up to:
- Increase the number of meals delivered by five times
- Incorporate locally grown fresh healthy food into menus. Increase onsite volunteers.
- Eliminate an added leg of transport.
- Better address the need for specialty and medically tailored meals.
- Add flexibility with space and product to more nimbly meet needs.
- Allow aging in place and independence with fresh healthy food.
- Increase quality and quality control.
The Souper Bowl of Caring special offering on Feb 9, 2025 will support this final project. You may or may not know – Sardis is a meal delivery distribution site for Meals on Wheels (Friendship Trays). Weekly a Nourish Up van driver parks under the sanctuary portico and volunteers come to pick up the meals for their delivery routes near by. You can also bring nonperishable food donations, baby formula and diapers to our mission corner any day of the year and donations are picked up weekly and delivered to Nourish Up.
